The Making of Our Products Cuvee Kitchen Apparel's commitment to quality can easily be determined just by holding the genuine leather products in your hand. Our signature double-stitch found on every product is more than a signature look of Cuvee Kitchen Apparel, it is essential to its performance and construction. We utilize high tensile strength thread in all of the seams to ensure durability and longevity. We're proud to mention that we have continually fabricated all of our products with genuine "Nappa" leather from the Napa Hide and Leather House. So steeped in tradition is The Hide House, that the term "Nappa" leather is derived from their history of producing fine leathers and garments in Napa since 1869. World renowned for quality we only use Napa leather for our complete product line. The serendipity of babies and toddlers led to Kim Stewart’s home-based Nevada City business --- Cuvee Kitchen Apparel. Stewart, who left the professional world of suits and PDA’s when she had her first son, was looking for a business she could run out of her home. She was in a “Mom’s Group” with a new mother who was feeling overwhelmed running a business she inherited. One thing led to another and the two moms decided what was not working for one would be perfect for the other. A third new mom ended up helping Stewart on the manufacturing end. All this in Nevada County, where Stewart has lived for 23 years. The term “kitchen apparel” is exactly what it sounds like: Dressing up your kitchen. Cuvee is a wine term meaning gathering different batches of end of season wine blended together, and Stewart figured all the new moms were kind of a “cuvee” as well. The unique factor of Cuvee Kitchen Apparel is that it’s made of leather suede and comes in 30 different colors. At first that might sound odd, but there are many advantages to suede leather in the kitchen. The leather protects you from heat and flame – it won’t catch on fire, which is why firefighters wear leather – it has naturally insulating properties. It also grips really well, so pots and pans don’t slip out of your hands when using the Cuvee potholders. But Stewart says one of the best things about Cuvee products is that leather is sexy. And that thought is shared by the Food Network’s newest superstar – Giada de Laurentiis. She found Cuvee Kitchen Apparel at a Hollywood kitchen store and had a production assistant order much of the Cuvee line. She showcases it on her new show, “Giada At Home” on the Food Network, with new episodes airing on Saturday’s and Monday’s. Babies even figure in to this part of Stewart’s business – Giada herself just had a baby. Kim and her husband now have two sons – Colin 5 yrs old and Branden 3 yrs old. They can testify to the sturdiness of Cuvee’s products, so she made them research and development associates. News & Events |
